Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 16 oz refried beans
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1/2 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup jalapeños, sliced (optional, for heat)
  • Tortilla chips or crackers, for dipping

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing spoon
  • baking dish or casserole dish
  • Oven
  • knife and cutting board

Method

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Drain any excess fat. Stir in taco seasoning according to packet directions, usually with added water. Simmer a few minutes to absorb flavors.
  2. In a baking or casserole dish, layer refried beans on the bottom. Spread sour cream over beans, then add seasoned ground beef.
  3. Sprinkle cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses evenly over beef mixture.
  4. Top with diced tomatoes, green onions, black olives, and jalapeños if desired.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake dip for 20–25 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Remove from oven and serve hot with tortilla chips, crackers, or veggie sticks.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add extra jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce. You can prepare the dip ahead of time, cover, and refrigerate — then bake just before serving. Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.
