Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup softened butter (for filling)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add mashed bananas, melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and stir until dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until soft and slightly sticky.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out dough into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches). Spread with softened butter.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over buttered dough.
  7. Roll tightly from the long end and slice into 12 rolls. Place in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
  8. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake rolls for 25–28 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Spread over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

Make ahead tip: Prepare the rolls the night before, cover tightly, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, let them rise at room temperature for 45 minutes before baking. You can also freeze baked rolls (without frosting) for up to 2 months and thaw before reheating and frosting.
